Winter storm to bring heavy snow to Mid-Missouri Friday into Saturday
A WINTER STORM WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR ALL COUNTIES IN MID-MISSOURI EXCEPT MACON, CHARITON, SALINE, PEHLPS, AND BENTON COUNTIES. THIS GOES IN EFFECT FRIDAY AT 12 PM UNTIL EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.
No matter where you are at you WILL see winter weather impacts within the days ahead.
THURSDAY: High level clouds are slowly streaming into Mid-Missouri this afternoon, which will keep temperatures slightly colder today. Highs will only top out in the upper 30s with a southeasterly breeze up to 8 mph. A jacket will be needed, as wind chill values remain near freezing into the heart of the afternoon.
TONIGHT: Thick clouds build in from the southwest tonight as moisture quickly begins to stream into the region. With the cloud coverage in place, lows tonight won’t be as cold. It’ll still be chilly with overnight lows bottoming out near 30 degrees, with winds chills in the low to mid 20s by morning.
EXTENDED: A winter storm is developing for Friday and will send moisture into mid-Missouri during the day Friday as temperatures stay in the mid to upper 30s. At this time, it looks like it will start as a mix of rain, sleet and snow which will increase after 10 AM Friday and change to all snow by late afternoon and evening with snow continuing through the day on Saturday. Snow will be heavy at times and could reduce visibility greatly across eastern parts of Mid-Missouri. Temperatures will fall to near freezing by Friday evening and snow will begin to stick to untreated roads with accumulation overnight, causing slow travel. Forecast snow amounts of 4-7 inches are expected with localized higher amounts possible. The average accumulation will be close to 5″. Lowest totals will be west near HWY 65 to Kansas City with higher amounts to the east and southeast. Temperatures will be below freezing from Friday evening through Saturday morning so untreated roads will be slick. Temperatures stay in the mid 30s Sunday with cloudy skies and light snow showers.
