Pursuit ends in Highway 50 crash
UPDATE 4:40 P.M.: Lt. David Williams with the Jefferson City Police Department said in a news release that the chase that ended in a crash on Highway 50 started when Moniteau County deputies tried to pull a vehicle over for hazardous driving.
The chase went into Cole County and then Jefferson City at high speed and the suspect caused another vehicle to crash onto Missouri Boulevard from Highway 50 after sideswiping it, Williams wrote in a news release. That driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The suspect’s vehicle continued driving eastbound, went into the median and crashed into the embankment separating Missouri Boulevard from Highway 50, Williams said. The driver was arrested without incident and charges are pending.
Cleanup after the crash closed westbound Highway 50 for about 30-45 minutes.
UPDATE 4:15 P.M.: Westbound Highway 50 in Jefferson City reopened at about 3:45 p.m. after being closed because of a crash. The closure was reported by the Missouri Department of Transportation at about 3 p.m.
The crash happened after a law enforcement pursuit. The Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the chase started in Moniteau County. The office did not release further details but said a news release would be forthcoming.
Jefferson City police assisted in the chase, which ended in an injury crash that shut down Highway 50.
ORIGINAL: Westbound Highway 50 is shut down in Jefferson City because of a crash, the Missouri Department of Transportation said Thursday afternoon.
The road is closed between Truman Boulevard and Highway 179, MoDOT said in a tweet.

The Jefferson City Police Department tweeted that it was assisting Moniteau County with a pursuit that ended in an injury crash, but it wasn’t clear whether the pursuit and the Highway 50 crash were related.
