Warming Saturday, rain next week
TONIGHT: Temperatures will drop back into the upper 20s, feeling a lot like winter as we head into the first night of the season. Winds will begin to shift tonight out of the south, with many areas seeing wind chills fall into the lower 20s by Saturday morning.
SATURDAY: Under mostly sunny skies, temperatures will warm into the upper 40s in the afternoon thanks to a southerly breeze.
EXTENDED: A weak cold front will move through Saturday evening, shifting winds to the northwest. As an upper level disturbance moves through behind the surface front late Saturday night, there is a chance we’ll see some snow flurries early Sunday morning, turning to sprinkles then ending. No accumulation is expected. Sunshine will return through the day Sunday with highs in the mid 40s. We’ll stay mild for late December much of next week with highs nearing 50 degrees and nights in the 30s. As far as Christmas Day, it looks to be a mild one, with highs in the upper 40s with rain possible. A developing low over the southwestern portion of the US will gradually lift through the Midwest and bring widespread rain chances as we head from Wednesday into early Friday morning. The track of the low will determine if we’ll see all rain, and timing is yet to be determined. As of now, it looks like all rain for Mid-Missouri with snow staying farther. Once the system tracks through, it will lead to the return to cooler conditions, with highs struggling to climb into the lower 40s by weeks end.
