One person shot in south Columbia Saturday afternoon
One woman was taken to a hospital after she was shot in the forearm Saturday afternoon in the 3800 block of Aspen Heights Parkway inside the Aspen Heights housing complex.
Authorities said there is no suspect or vehicle description.
The Columbia Police Department responded to a call for an accidental shooting around 2:30 p.m.
“The original call was that it was an accidental gunshot wound,” CPD Sgt. Michael Hestir said. However, he said they are not sure if it was accidental yet. “We want to confirm that before we let go of the crime scene, so we’re trying to preserve evidence.”
Hestir said they were not sure what led up to the shooting and are still investigating.
There were at least seven police cars on the scene as police were investigating.
Hestir said they detained a few people. Our crews on the scene saw at least two people in the back of police cars, but they were not handcuffed.
Officers said the woman’s injuries are not life-threatening.
Our news crews were asked by Aspen Heights management to leave their property.
