Authorities investigate shooting death of LU student government leader

Communications staff at Jefferson City’s Lincoln University announced the death of a student early Wednesday morning. LU officials said the man’s death was a result of a shooting.

D’Angelo Bratton-Bland was a graduating senior and was serving as the president of the Student Government Association at the historic university.

“D’Angelo was the epitome of school spirit and Blue Tiger Pride and he will be sorely missed,” the college said in an email to students and faculty. “Additional information for an on campus memorial will be released later today. This semester has been one of enormous loss and we are all hurting.”

The only information released about the cause or circumstances of Bratton-Bland’s death was included in an earlier email that was sent to the student body just before midnight Tuesday.

“The Lincoln University family is holding SGA President D’Angelo Bratton-Bland in our thoughts as he is being treated for injuries sustained earlier tonight off campus,” the email said.

The University announced it will be offering counseling services in the Student Health Center, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Counseling is also available to students via phone at (573) 681-5164 or (573) 681-5970.
