Filing for municipal elections opens Tuesday

Candidates can start filing for the April 2019 municipal elections on Tuesday.

Several positions are up for election in Columbia and Jefferson City. Candidates could be a part of big changes, with the city of Columbia looking for a city manager, and Jefferson City Public Schools working on opening up another high school.

Candidates can apply for two seats on the Columbia Public School’s Board of Education. One of those includes Jan Mees’ seat, who is the current president of the board.

Two seats on the Columbia City Council are up for election; Ward Three and Ward Four. Karl Skala is the current council member for Ward Three and Ian Thomas is the current council member for Ward Four.

One seat is available for the Boone County Hospital Board of Trustees for a five-year term.

In Jefferson City, five seats are up for election; one for each ward.

Candidates can apply for two seats on the Jefferson City School’s Board of Education. Rich Aubuchon’s seat is up for election. He is the current vice president of the board. Lorelei Schwartz’s term is also coming to and end. She is the current treasurer.
