Snow chances increase through the morning
THURSDAY: Temperatures early in the day will be hovering above freezing as we see bands of snow increase from the north and west. Some places south of I-70 could initially see light rain, which will transition to snow through mid to late morning. Minor snow accumulation is possible with anywhere from a dusting to an inch and a half with most on grassy surfaces. Some slick roads are possible especially along and north of I-70 where temperatures will stay close to freezing. Highs will reach the mid 30s south of I-70 in the afternoon. Northerly winds near 10 mph will usher in colder air with temperatures in the upper 20s by 6 PM.
TONIGHT: Clouds will break up and skies begin to clear tonight as temperatures drop back into the teens. This colder night is thanks to winds out of the north up to 7 mph. For the morning commute wind chill values will be close to freezing.
EXTENDED: With partial sunshine, we’ll still only make it to 30 degrees Friday afternoon and Saturday. A southern storm system will bring a chance of snow south of Hwy 50 Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Only minor accumulation is expected north of I-44 but those traveling south Saturday should be aware of wintry weather with several inches of snow possible. Past Sunday, we’ll start warming up with high temperatures above freezing by Monday and in the low to mid 40s Tuesday and Wednesday, closer to our 30 year averages.
