More than 30 pets from house fire handed over to humane society

More than 30 pets were handed over to the Central Missouri Humane Society on Monday after they were found in small cages, covered in urine and feces, the humane society said in a press release.

Boone County Animal Control turned over the 17 cats and 14 dogs. The dog breeds included poodles, Pomeranians, King Charles spaniels, cocker spaniels, beagles, a papillion and a Japanese chin. The humane society said most of the animals were in need of grooming, and some were suffering from urine scald, respiratory infection and dental disease.

The animals were involved in a fire at a home in Boone County at Broadview Court in August. According to animal control officials, there was no evidence of animal abuse or neglect at the time of the fire. However, a warrant was served to Angela Nance on Oct. 30, and Nance agreed to give up ownership of the animals.

The animals are currently in foster homes and will be available for adoption on Dec. 12.
