Sunshine and seasonal today, with snow possible by Thursday morning

WEDNESDAY: It will be a nicer day with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures reaching the mid to upper 40s with southwesterly winds up to 10 mph. The sunshine and warming will be short-lived as our next cold front is quick to follow overnight into Thursday.

TONIGHT: Clouds begin to move back into the area tonight bringing with it the return of light snow into the region. Initially any precipitation will start off as light rain and gradually transition into snow by Thursday morning. With light precipitation overnight, little to no accumulation is expected through the night, with a better chance for snow arriving after 6 AM where areas will see a better chance for accumulation.

EXTENDED: Minor snow accumulation is possible Thursday with anywhere from a dusting to an inch and a half. Highs will reach the lower 30s Thursday early in the day but fall into the 20s by 6 PM and into the upper teens by early Friday morning. We’ll stay below freezing through early Sunday morning, making into the mid 30s Sunday afternoon. A southern storm system will bring a chance of snow south of Hwy 50 by late Friday night through Saturday afternoon. A band of heavy snow is expected in far southern Missouri Saturday but farther north only minor accumulation is expected north of I-44. Those traveling south Saturday should be aware of possible wintry weather. Past Sunday, we’ll start warming up with high temperatures above freezing by Monday and in the low to mid 40s Tuesday and Wednesday, closer to our 30 year averages. Unsettled weather returns later next week. Stay with ABC 17 News as we continue to track the latest details on the changing conditions.
