St. Louis man arrested for attempted rape

A St. Louis man was arrested in Columbia on Tuesday for an alleged attempted rape that happened in August.

Columbia Police Department spokesman Jeff Pitts said the victim drove Andrew Baynes downtown on Aug. 21 after he appeared to be intoxicated.

Baynes attempted sexual advances on the victim, but after the victim refused, Baynes allegedly became violent and grabbed the victim while also continuing the advances. Bystanders were able to intervene until law enforcement arrived, according to Pitts.

Baynes is in the Boone County Jail and is waiting for his bond to be set by the court.
