South Columbia bank robbed; suspect arrested

A south Columbia bank was robbed Friday.

The Columbia Police Department tweeted that First Midwest Bank on Grindstone Parkway was robbed and that a suspect was in custody. No one was injured.

Police at the scene told ABC 17 News a 27-year-old man was arrested after he handed tellers a note saying he had a weapon and ran.

A nearby Boone County deputy arrested the suspect at Nifong Boulevard and Rock Quarry Road, police said. No weapon was displayed, police said.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw four Columbia Police Department cruisers outside the bank after the robbery.

Friday’s incident is the at least the ninth bank robbery in Columbia so far this year, and the third in November.
