Two charged after stealing from Columbia middle school

Two men were arrested and charged after they allegedly robbed Lange Middle School in Columbia.

According to court documents, William H. Doolady and Wyatt A. Paulson entered the school through the roof early on Monday, Oct. 29. Video surveillance footage then showed the men checking various classrooms for items of interest. The men then allegedly went to the school office where they removed three safes.

They allegedly removed one of the safes through the roof and the other two by using rolling chairs to get them to their vehicle, the documents said.

When school staff arrived the next morning, they notified police.

Both Doolady and Paulson admitted they were the people in the surveillance video, according to the court documents. They then admitted to prying open the safes, splitting the money and dumping the safes in a nearby creek, the documents said.

Columbia Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark said Lange Middle School is working on the security issue.

Both men are charged with second-degree burglary. They posted bond and are out of jail. They’re set to appear in court on Nov. 28.
