Morgan County man pleads guilty to 2 charges

A Morgan County man pleaded guilty Friday to abandonment of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence.

Darrell D. Willis, of Rocky Mount, Missouri, will be sentenced Nov. 27 at the Morgan County Justice Center. Abandonment of a corpse is a class E felony in Missouri, which carries a sentence of no more than four years in prison.

Joanna Anderson of Rocky Mount was reported missing in May 2016. Anderson’s sister and her common law husband, Steven Swon, said they had not seen her in weeks.

More than a year later, a tip led investigators to bring in Willis. Willis reportedly told the investigators that he helped Swon move a 55-gallon drum with Anderson’s body inside.

Swon paid Willis $2,000 to help him move the body, authorities said. Reportedly, Swon had killed Anderson in a domestic dispute.

Swon was diagnosed with terminal cancer before moving Anderson’s body and he died from the disease in July 2017.
