Winter still hanging around in Mid-Missouri

SUNDAY: We’re certainly starting off warmer than yesterday, but it will still be chilly this morning. As we head into the afternoon, clouds will be increasing ahead of our next disturbance moving through Mid-Missouri. Temperatures will get into the middle 40s this afternoon, thanks to that warmer start and winds out of the southwest up to 10 mph.

TONIGHT: As this system moves in, we will initially see light showers moving in from the west. These light showers will quickly be changing over to all snow by midnight as colder air continues to filter in. Temperatures will drop to the upper 20s for overnight lows. We’ll have to watch untreated bridges and overpasses in the morning for slick spots.

EXTENDED: Heading into Monday morning’s commute, snow will slow down a bit, but we’ll see an increase in snowfall rates around midday, south of I-70. Snow will eventually taper off Monday evening, from west to east. Temperatures will be dropping throughout the day, so roadways will need to be monitored in the evening with some slick spots possible. Accumulations still look rather light, with most of us getting a dusting to 1″ on grassy, elevated surfaces but can’t rule out 2″ south of I-70. Sunshine returns on Tuesday, but it will still be cold with temperatures struggling to get back to freezing in the afternoon. A gradual warming trend starts to take hold in Mid-Missouri, with temperatures getting back to the middle 40s Wednesday and low 50s by Thursday.
