Shots fired at central Columbia apartment building

UPDATE – 2:21 p.m.: The Columbia Police Department said one person might have been shot in the hand after shots were fired through a window at the Freedom House Apartments in the 100 block of N. William Street.

Officers spoke with a resident of the apartment who said the victim was visiting his apartment when shots were fired through the window. The resident said the woman was hit in the hand but left before officers got on scene because she had active warrants out for her arrest.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact CPD at 5730874-7652 oe Crimstoppers at 573-875-8477 to remain anonymous.

UPDATE – 4 a.m.: Columbia police confirmed several shots were fired at the Freedom House Apartments in the 100 block of N. William Street.

Officers told ABC 17 News at least seven shots were fired from outside the building through windows and walls.

Police wouldn’t confirm if they found any shell casings at the scene.

One female was reported to be hit by a bullet, but police said she fled on foot from the scene and investigators are still trying to locate her by checking local hospitals.

ORIGINAL: Columbia police set a large presence near an apartment complex near Stephens Lake Park early Friday morning.

Initial reports indicated officers first responded to the area around 2:30 a.m. for a report of shots fired. Police have not yet confirmed whether they found any evidence of gunfire.

An ABC 17 News crew saw about half a dozen police units in the 100 block of North William Street. Officers appeared to be searching with flashlights in and around the Freedom House Apartments.
