Two charged with murder in Columbia shooting

Two Columbia men have been charged with murder and drug distribution in the shooting death of a teenager.

Alex J. Glay, 20, and Erick Libimbi, 20, were each charged with second-degree murder and drug distribution is the Tuesday shooting death of Nasir Smith, 14, at The Links apartment complex. Glay and Libimbi were arrested Tuesday.

Police were sent to the complex at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday on a call that two people had been shot. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene and Libimbi who was shot was taken to a hospital.

According to a probable cause statement, Glay, Libimbi, Smith and three unknown subjects were at the residence. Libimbi told police he saw Glay exchanging an unknown substance, next one of the unknown subjects pulled a gun and tried to rob Libimbi and Glay,

Libimbi said he fired back in the direction of the three unknown subjects and Smith. He later found Smith dead outside of the apartment complex.

CPD found marijuana in several locations after executing a search warrant. Officers found two firearms hidden in the grass near the apartment.

Glay and Libimbi were in the Boone County Jail on Wednesday without bond.
