Sheriff’s department IDs man shot by deputy
UPDATE: The Boone County Sheriff’s Department has identified a burglary suspect wounded in a confrontation with deputies Monday as 24-year-old Daundre E. Lewis-Gatewood.
Two deputies were sent to a home in the 4800 block of Schooner Road just outside Columbia on Monday on a report of two men breaking through a back door, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. Deputies confronted the two men as they went out the front door and chased them through backyards and onto Meadowlark Lane, the release said.
One of the men pointed a pistol at a deputy, who fired two shots at him, the sheriff’s department said. Lewis-Gatewood was taken to a hospital and later released. He was booked into the Boone County Jail on suspicion of first-degree burglary, armed criminal action and resisting arrest. The second man was still at large Monday evening.
