Jefferson City couple charged with child abuse

A Jefferson City couple was charged with child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child on Tuesday after two young girls were found running away from the couple’s residence and heading to Texas.

According to court documents, Christina and Daniel Dubey allegedly abused at least two children at their residence.

State Highway Patrol Troopers got reports of a two young girls in the median of Highway 54 just after 5 a.m. on Oct. 10. According to court documents, a Cole County deputy found the children on Monticello Road outside Jefferson City, which is nearby the highway. A trooper then walked the children to their vehicle.

The girls were “completely wet” due to the weather conditions, and they were not wearing shoes. They said to the trooper they were heading to Texas in order find one of the children’s parents, according to court documents.

The children told police that if they went back to the Dubey residence on Rustic Lane in Jefferson City, they would be beaten or killed, according to the probable cause statement.

The children were taken to the Community Health Center where a health care professional found injuries to both girls and bruising to one of the children’s thigh.

Interviews with the children revealed there were four other children living at the residence, according to the court documents.

Both Christina and Daniel are being held on a $100,000 bond.
