Filing for Columbia city council, mayor starts Oct. 30
Citizens can officially file to run for Columbia City Council and mayor starting on Oct. 30.
The city announced Tuesday petitions are available for pickup.
In April 2019, voters will decide on candidates for the Third and Fourth Wards, as well as mayor.
ABC 17 News reported Chris Farnam, an employee at the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, filed paperwork with the Missouri Ethics Commission in July as a candidate for the mayoral election.
Former State Rep. Chris Kelly has also said he is considering a run for mayor.
Mayor Brian Treece also has a registered campaign committee for the position.
The city said petitions and associated instructions can be picked up in the City Clerk’s Office on the second floor of City Hall.
A candidate for city council must be a qualified voter and resident of the ward they are filing to represent. They must get at least 50 signatures from citizens who reside and are registered voters in that ward.
Anyone running for Mayor must be a qualified voter and resident of the city. The candidate must get at least 100 signatures.
Filing starts at 8 a.m. on Oct. 30 and ends at 5 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2019.
