Man pleads guilty in federal court to July shooting

A Columbia man pleaded guilty to illegally possessing firearms and ammunition that had been stolen in a recent burglary in federal court on Thursday.

Deangelo Wayne Joe, Jr., 24, faces up to 10 years in federal prison without parole for the offense.

It happened back in July when police got reports of a shooting in The Links parking lot off Clark Lane in east Columbia.

Officers told Joe to put his hands up before he ran into a building. They surrounded the complex and gave commands for about 30 minutes before he surrendered.

Investigators say they later found a fired shell casings inside his pants pocket, along with a stolen handgun and rifle in the apartment. Both were reported missing after a July 8 burglary.

Joe already has two prior felony burglary convictions.
