Cool and damp weekend for Mid-Missouri

TONIGHT: Lingering rain showers will exit to the east from 6 – 8 PM. Some areas south of Jefferson City may see lingering showers for the kickoff of high school football, but we are going to see drying conditions through the game. It will be cold through game time with temperatures in the low 40s and some upper 30s. Temperatures continue to drop tonight with a low of 38 by morning. Overcast skies will keep frost from developing through the night, but we’ll see some areas of fog form.

SATURDAY: Cloudy skies will stick around for the first part of the morning, with some fog likely. Temperatures through the day will improve greatly as we see some peaks of sunshine into the afternoon hours. This along with winds out of the south up to 11 mph will aid in warming our temperatures into the low to mid 50s through the day. While we do stay on the dry side, evening showers will creep in after 7 pm as the remnants of Tropical Depression Sergio continue to track to the northeast.

EXTENDED: As of now, the best chance of rain for Saturday night into early Sunday morning is south of I-70 as the system tracks across northern Arkansas. An additional .50″ to an inch of rain is possible as we head into Saturday, with the better chance near I-44. Temperatures will stay cool Sunday with highs only in the low 50s. Rain looks to continue as we head into Sunday night and Monday ahead of a cold front that will bring the return to cooler conditions. It’s possible we could see our first widespread frost/freeze as we head into the start of next week. After a cold start to the week, we’ll gradually see afternoon highs climb back into the 60s with dry conditions as we head through most of next week.
