UPDATE: Suspect charged in Fulton McDonald’s shooting
Charges were filed for the suspect in a shooting at at McDonald’s restaurant on Saturday.
Police say an arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for Brian K. Heathcock on charges including unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, assault and property damage. The Fulton Police Department in a news release said Heathcock was already in a jail in the custody of another law enforcement agency, but did not specify which agency.
Police responded to the McDonald’s at 303 S. Business 54 just after 2 a.m. Saturday for reports of shots fired. When they arrived, police said the victim had visible injuries, and there was blood covering the front of his shirt, neck and face.
After reviewing surveillance footage, police found that a man later identified as Heathcock exchanged words with the victim at which point the two got in a fight, and Heathcock threw a drink at the victim’s face and began to assault him. During the fight, Heathcock allegedly pulled out a gun, hit the victim twice in the head with the gun and fired a round inside the business. He then fled the area.
No one else was injured. However, investigators found the discharged round passed through a wall at the restaurant, causing damage estimated at more than $1,000.
Heathcock was a convicted felon and was not supposed to have a firearm in his possession.
Police initially identified William Scoggins as the suspect, but they said Wednesday that he was ruled out during an investigation.
