Former prosecutor weighs in on Kavanaugh hearing: ‘You can’t have the judiciary be political’

A former prosecutor is weighing in on Thursday’s Brett Kavanaugh hearing, saying we are entering dangerous territory because “you can’t have the judiciary be political.”

The hearing saw emotional testimony by both Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault when the two were teenagers.

Former Cole County prosecutor Bill Tackett said the integrity of the Supreme Court is now in question because Kavanaugh criticized a political party.

“This was the opposite-the absolute dead bang opposite of fair and impartial. This is why we fight to keep politics out of prosecution,” he told ABC 17 News.

Kavanaugh accused democrats of executing a “calculated and orchestrated political hit.” He also blamed a frenzy on the left.

“A democratic senator on this committee publicly referred to me as evil. Evil. Think about that word. And said that those who supported me were, quote, complicit in evil. Is it any surprise that people have been willing to do anything to make any physical threat against my family,” Kavanaugh said.

Tackett said politicizing our nation’s highest court “takes the faith of the judiciary out of the hands of the people.”

“They aren’t going to look at decisions as being fair and balanced. They are going to look at these decisions as being political,” he said.
