Five car crash in Jefferson City sends two to the hospital

Jefferson City Police Officers responded to the intersection of Hwy 54 and Hwy 63 for a five-car vehicle crash with injuries.

A hay bale fell from unknown vehicle and blocked the right lane of US 54, which is what authorities say caused the crash.

36-year-old Joshua Dodsworth was driving a 2012 Dodge Charger and slowed down to avoid hitting the hay bale. He was then hit from behind by 23-year-old Rebecca Johnson in a 2001 Ford Focus.

This caused three consecutive crashes behind Johnson.

Two people were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Other minor injuries were reported at the scene but no one else was transported by EMS.

The roadway was down to one lane for about 45 minutes while emergency crews were on scene.

All occupants of all vehicles were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
