Missouri lawmakers to meet for Special Session

Gov. Mike Parson signed a proclamation to convene the Missouri State Legislature for a Special Session during the week of Sept. 10-14.

Parson wants legislators to focus on two bills during the special session: a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education bill and a treatment court bill.

Parson previously vetoed House Bill 2562, which would help reform drug treatment courts and expand them across the state.

Parson said he wants lawmakers to look at the bill again because he said it’s important for Missourians to be able to receive proper treatment, if needed, so they can further their education and get back into the workforce.

The STEM education bill, Senate Bill 894, would require the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to create an online program that would educate students about STEM careers.
