Woman pleads guilty to animal abuse
A woman accused of animal abuse after a video surfaced of a dog being beaten with a rope has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor.
Leishi Tang pleaded guilty last week to a single count of misdemeanor animal abuse, according to online court records. She was originally charged with two misdemeanor counts of animal abuse and one felony account after someone emailed a video to Columbia police in June that showed a woman beating a Corgi dog with a rope and yelling at it in Chinese. Police said in a probable cause statement that Tang admitted to being the woman in the video.
Judge Kim Shaw sentenced Tang to a one-year jail sentence but suspended that punishment and placed her on two years of probation. She was also ordered to serve 20 days of home detention in lieu of serving shock time in jail.
