Car goes off Rock Quarry Road

Columbia police closed off a stretch of Rock Quarry Road near Stag’s Way as they investigated a single-vehicle crash.

The crash happened when the driver lost control, overcorrected and went down a ravine.

According to a family member of the driver, the driver had her seat belt on but was then able to get herself out of the car to climb up the ravine and get help.

Police said the driver was not injured. ABC 17 News crew saw the driver leave with a family member shaken up but doing well.

A tow truck had the vehicle pulled back onto the road by 1:45 p.m.

The road was closed for about 90 minutes while crews cleared the scene.

Police are asking drivers to use caution, especially during wet conditions such as those experienced Thursday.

Columbia police reported 11 crashes on the stretch of Rock Quarry between Aug. 1, 2017 and Thursday, according to statistics maintained by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Six of those involved injuries.
