Strong storms possible this evening, Much cooler temps arrive tomorrow

THIS AFTERNOON: Temperatures remain in the mid-90s this afternoon, with many spots seeing feels like temperatures approaching 103*. Expect windy conditions as well, as we continue to close the gap between the cold front and the hot and humid air overtop of our area– expect those winds sustained anywhere between 15-20mph, gusting to 30 at times. Mid-MO looks to stay dry through the evening… keep hydrated for any outdoor activities.

TONIGHT: With an approaching cold front moving south from northwester Missouri, a line of showers and thunderstorms will develop and push into our area, likely past 10 PM. With storms moving in, there is a chance of strong to severe storms with a marginal and slight risk of severe weather. This will bring the opportunity for damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out. However, quickly through the night storms will lose energy to maintain severe strength. The line of storms is expected to weaken as it moves south of I-70. Heavy downpours & lightning can be expected overnight.

EXTENDED: Storms will exit southeastern mid-Missouri by Wednesday afternoon. Rainfall totals are expected to range from 1-2″ with the higher amounts north of I-70. In the wake of the cold front temperatures will drop back into the low 80s on Wednesday with lower humidity, but clouds will stick around. An active weather pattern continues into the second half of this week with spot storms possible Thursday. Again, the heat will crank it up a notch for the weekend with high temperatures back towards seasonal and heat indices in the mid to upper 90s. We hold onto spot storm chances into the weekend.
