Strong storms possible tonight; Hot & humid weekend

TONIGHT: The first half of the night will be mild with temperatures in the 70s. Breezy conditions will stick around with winds out of the south up to 15 mph. Scattered showers and storms are expected to develop in southern Iowa into the night, along a cold front. As those storms track to the southeast, they could impact Mid-Missouri into the overnight hours. Any storms that we see will likely bring a severe possibility, of which damaging winds and quarter size hail is possible. A tornado is possible, but the best ingredients for a tornado will be found in northern Missouri.

SATURDAY: Storms will linger through the early morning hours and then mostly sunny skies will prevail. Expect the return to summer, as afternoon highs top out in the mid to upper 90s. Winds will be out of the southwest up to 15 mph reinforcing the heat and humidity into the weekend. Be mindful if you are outside, as heat indices will likely top out near 104 degrees.

EXTENDED: Outside of a few showers early Sunday morning across northwestern Mid-Missouri, this weekend will be hot and humid. Afternoon highs will top out in the mid 90s through Monday as a stout upper level ridge sets up shop to our southwest. Thankfully, it will be short-lived, as a cold front is set to slowly track through by the middle of next week. The frontal boundary will be a slow-mover, which will set the stage for periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms. While no severe weather is looking likely right now, you’ll want to make sure you stay up to date with the latest information. The heat looks to take a back seat to the forecast once the cold front tracks through, with afternoon highs back in the upper 80s.
