Preview: “The Flood of ’93: 25 Years Later”

ORIGINAL STORY: It’s been 25 years since the Great Flood of 1993 devastated the Midwest along the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, causing $15 billion in damage.

A report from the Missouri Dept. of Natural Resources in 1996 highlighted the devastation Missouri and eight other states faced from April to October of 1993: ” Man -made structures can be repaired or re placed , however, the personal hardships of the people affected will remain for years.”

Now, ABC 17 News asks what Missouri has done to prepare for a future large-scale flood.

In a special report, ABC 17 Stormtrack Meteorologist Aaron Morrison goes in-depth to find out how land buyouts and technology have been used to improve the situation for Missourians in the floodplain.
