Students hit by pellets on Jefferson City bus

A bus was delayed taking students from Jefferson City’s Thorpe Gordon Elementary School home Wednesday after students on board were shot with a pellet gun.

The district said in a post on its Facebook page that bus No. 8 pulled over to allow law enforcement and district officials to investigate. Officials determined a student brought an airsoft gun on the bus and fired it, the district said. Three students were hit by pellets but not injured.

District spokeswoman Ryan Burns said the district is reviewing the incident and had no additional comment late Wednesday.

The district’s elementary handbook says school officials will contact law enforcement for searches if they suspect a student has a weapon. A student in violation faces a range of punishment including expulsion.
