Fulton man indicted on child sex crime charges
A federal grand jury has indicted a sex offender living in Fulton on accusations that he tried to entice a child into illegal sexual activity.
Michael Collins, 21, was charged Thursday in federal court in Jefferson City with three counts: attempting to entice a minor under the age of 14 to engage in illegal sexual activity, transporting a minor under the age of 14 across state lines to engage in sexual activity and committing those felonies as a convicted sex offender, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri said in a news release.
The indictment alleges Collins used the internet and a cellphone to commit the crimes from July 21, 2017 to Dec. 10, 2017. Collins was convicted in Callaway County of sexual misconduct or attempted sexual misconduct involving a child under age 15 in 2016 and sentenced to five years of probation, according to online court records. His probation was revoked in April.
No hearings had been set Friday morning.
