Fiery crash shuts down I-70 in Montgomery County
UPDATE (8/16 7:30 a.m.): The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified those involved in a fiery crash Wednesday night that shut down all lanes of I-70 in Montgomery County.
Emergency crews transported two people from separate vehicles to the hospital. Bradley Pingel, 48, suffered serious injuries and Justin Edwards, 37, suffered moderate injuries, according to the highway patrol crash report.
A semi rear-ended a vehicle, pushing it into a second semi, according to the report. The first semi continued and hit a small U-Haul truck, which was pushed into a third semi.
Pingel, the driver of the U-Haul truck, and Edwards, the driver of the first semi, were the only two people injured in the crash.
Multiple agencies helped work the scene including highway patrol aircraft, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Warren County Sheriff’s Office and multiple fire departments.
UPDATE: The Missouri Department of Transportation said all lanes of I-70 are back open as of 4 a.m. Thursday.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, multiple vehicles were involved in the crash and several of the vehicles were on fire.
According to an earlier tweet from Troop F, some fuel from a tanker truck leaked into a ditch but is confined to the area of the crash.

As of 10:30 p.m., Troop F said both directions of I-70 near mile marker 181 were still blocked, but crews are working to clear the scene.
According to a tweet from Troop F, some fuel from a tanker truck leaked into a ditch but is confined to the area of the crash.
Authorities said eastbound traffic is being diverted at New Florence & westbound traffic is being diverted at Jonesburg. Both diversions will be to the North Outer Road, the tweet said.
The Missouri Department of Transportation’s traveler map estimated the westbound lanes will be closed for three and a half hours and the eastbound lanes are expected to be shut down for four hours.
ORIGINAL: Interstate 70 is currently shut down in both directions near mile marker 181.2.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, multiple vehicles are involved in the crash and several of the vehicles are on fire.
Authorities are urging drivers to find a different route.
