Semi-truck pile up cause of I-70 crash near Kingdom City
UPDATE 6:30 p.m.: The crash that temporarily closed westbound Interstate 70 near Kingdom City happened when one semi-truck hit another from behind.
A 2011 Freightliner driven by a man from New York was slowing to exit the interstate when a 2018 Freightliner driven by a man from Idaho Falls, Idaho hit the trailer from behind, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said in an online crash report. The crash caused another semi-truck to hit the 2011 Freightliner, as well.
The driver and a passenger in the 2018 Freightliner were taken to University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, the patrol said. The driver who rear-ended their truck suffered minor injuries.
UPDATE 8:48 a.m.: Emergency responders have opened up one lane of I-70. Traffic is moving slowly through the area.
ORIGINAL: The Missouri Dept of Transportation said a vehicle collision near the 148 mile marker of I-70 will close the westbound lanes for more than 2 hours Wednesday morning.
The crash was reported around 7:40 a.m. and crews said it will take an estimated 2 1/2 hours to clear.
