Sen. Claire McCaskill wins Democratic primary

UPDATE: According to the Associated Press, Sen. Claire McCaskill has won the Democratic primary.

ORIGINAL: Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill will face six other candidates Tuesday night with hopes of securing her place in Missouri’s 2018 Senate election.

Tuesday night’s primary is not expected to be a hotly contested race. Instead, the real challenge for McCaskill will likely come in November when she’s expected to face off against Attorney General Josh Hawley. Hawley is vying for the Republican nomination in Tuesday’s primary.

The potential McCaskill-Hawley match-up will be one of the major races to watch. McCaskill is hoping to win a third term in a state where President Trump had a 19 point victory. It will be critical for Democrats to retain McCaskill’s seat if they have any chance of gaining control of the Senate.
