Moberly City Council approves water/sewer rate increase

Members of the Moberly City Council approved a water/sewer tax rate increase at Monday night’s meeting.

The passage of the 3.5-percent hike means the current rate will go up from $1.41/100 gallons of water and sewer usage to $1.51/100 gallons.

There will also be an additional $1 base sewer rate increase for customers.

According to the city of Moberly, 143 water and sewer leaks were discovered in 2017, which caused the city to lose 25.5 million gallons of water.

City leaders said that’s equal to 25 days of operation at the water plant.

The water/sewer tax rate increase will provide funds to the public utility department to start replacing water and sewer lines.

Residents will find the rate increase reflected on their first utility bill after Saturday, Sept. 1.

The Moberly City Council also approved the purchase of 29 body cameras and video evidence management software for the police department.
