‘Rivalry Renewed’ pits old Mizzou vs. Kansas rivalry for good cause

Former players from the Mizzou and Kansas basketball teams did their part to break the rivalry drought and played in an alumni game for charity.

The game raised money for the Rush Forward Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club. No formal amount has been announced at this time.

Former Mizzou basketball player Kareem Rush said, “I’m relieved now, because it’s been extremely stressful trying to put together, but I couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out. We raised a lot of money for a good foundation….got a chance bring back some former guys. We had a good game. I think the crowd enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to doing it again next year and making it bigger and better than ever.”

Mizzou took a lead late into the first half, but Kansas came away with the 109-101 as Brandon Rush scored 46 points. Leo Lyons had 34 points for the Tigers while Kareem Rush and Rickey Paulding each had 14.

Former Tigers in action included Kareem Rush, Keyon Dooling, Leo Lyons, Rickey Paulding, Julian Winfield and others. Former Jayhawks in action included Brandon Rush, Mario Chalmers, Brady Morningstar and others.

Both teams said they hope to do this event in the future, and they hope the actual Mizzou and Kansas teams will play again.

Former Mizzou basketball player Keyon Dooling said he holds Kansas accountable for the two teams not playing.

“I’d like to see MU and KU play again. The great people of Missouri and Kansas deserve this rivalry. You can have four different generations of players support this family event. Economically, it could have a big impact on the area. I’m advocating to bring this rivalry back ASAP.”
