A mild weekend with possible rain

TONIGHT: The full “buck” moon of July will rise at 8:29 with the planet Mars visible to the lower right of the moon. Clouds will increase after midnight with lows by morning in the lower 60s. There is a slight shower chance north of I-70 toward daybreak.

SATURDAY: Light showers are possible in the morning mainly north of I-70. We’ll only see partial sunshine which will keep high temperatures closer to 80 with east to southeast winds up to 8 mph. There is a chance of a shower or t-storm in the afternoon with the best chance near I-44.

EXTENDED: There is a better chance of rain Sunday as a storm system passes through southern Missouri. A few showers are possible Sunday morning mainly north of I-70 with scattered showers and storms spreading south Sunday afternoon. Severe storms are not expected. Temperatures will stay mild Sunday with high temperatures only reaching the upper 70s. Next week starts off with a chance of rain Monday and Tuesday as temperatures stay below average, reaching near 80 Monday. By Monday morning, we could see rainfall amounts anywhere form .75″ – 1.25″ spread across Mid-Missouri. It’s likely we could see even higher totals as we head into the middle of the week. Despite the rain, the drought will still remain in place, as 7-10 inches of rain is needed to alleviate our drought. Temperatures slowly warm through next week as the upper level low pressure area moves off to the east and the upper level ridge builds back in, bringing back summer-like heat by the end of the week.
