Suspects on the loose after robbery at Jefferson City Walgreens

Authorities are searching for two suspects after a reported robbery and chase early Wednesday morning.

Three men went into the Walgreens on Missouri Boulevard just after midnight and pulled a gun on the pharmacist, according to Lt. Patrick McCutchen with the Jefferson City Police Department.

The men reportedly entered the store, wearing surgical masks and rubber gloves, and pointed a handgun at the cashier. The suspects then tied the cashier’s hands behind his back and forced him back to the pharmacy where they ordered the pharmacist to give them prescription drugs, according to police.

The three suspects then ran into a vehicle that was waiting behind the business.

Jefferson City police found the suspect vehicle shortly after and chased the vehicle to Callaway County, McCutchen said.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Callaway County Sheriff’s Office and Holts Summit police joined in to help officers.

Troopers deployed spike strips near the State Road AA and State Road OO exit near Holts Summit. The suspect vehicle lost control, eventually crashing in a home’s yard near Platinum Road and Jazel Lane, according to police.

The men ran from the vehicle and authorities set up a perimeter. A highway patrol helicopter and K9 unit were called in to assist in the search.

Authorities were able to find one of the suspects and took him into custody.

Two men are still at large. Around 4 a.m., officers located and took into custody a fourth suspect who was left behind hiding on the roof of O’Reily Auto Parts on Missouri Boulevard.

Jefferson City police ask anyone near the area who may have seen anything unusual to call 911. Police believe the suspects are from out of state and should be considered armed and dangerous.
