Officials find 23 dogs, hurt goat in Camden Co.

The Humane Society of Missouri is involved with animal control and Camden County deputies, after 23 dogs and a goat were found living with three people in a tent near Roach, Mo. The three agencies worked together, and on Tuesday, 16 of the animals were voluntarily surrendered.

The sheriff’s department first got a call last Thursday about a dog bite and property dispute off Irontown Drive.

Once they got on scene, they could hear dogs barking and a goat “bleating in distress.” They walked with the property owner down a long path into the woods, where they found the camp surrounded by fencing.

Officials say the conditions were deplorable. The goat was immediately taken away for an infected leg. It is under foster care and expected to recover.

The other animals will be adopted after they are checked out by veterinary workers.
