Search for election judges continues for several counties

With less than a month until the primary elections, several mid-Missouri counties are searching for additional poll workers.

According to their respective clerk offices: Boone County is short 27 Republican judges, Callaway needs three, and Cole County is looking for two additional staffers.

When fully staffed, Boone employs 365 judges; Cole and Callaway bring in about 100 or more.

“Not everyone can work every election, so we’re trying to find just two more,” said Cole County Clerk Steve Korsmeyer. “It costs a lot to put an election on, and election judges spend a long day there.”

Election judges are paid a flat rate by a county for working election day. In Boone, they receive $160. In Cole, judges are paid $100, or $120 if they are supervisors.
