City holding public hearing on Gans Creek cross country course

Residents in the City of Columbia will get another chance to provide input on the proposed Gans Creek cross country course.

A public hearing is set for Thursday night at 7 p.m. It follows another public hearing last week.

According to the city, the project could serve as the future home of the Mizzou men’s and women’s cross country teams. The course will also be used for the Missouri State Cross Country Championships beginning in November 2019.

The city plans to make the course available to local track clubs, high schools, middle schools and other colleges as well as recreational runners when it’s not in use by Mizzou or the Missouri State High School Activities Association.

The budget for the project is $200,000. According to the city, the initial construction will be funded by the 2015 Park Sales Tax. Additional amenities will be built with funding from University of Missouri Athletics.

ABC 17 News will be attending the public hearing tonight and will continue to update this story.
