Work zone crash results in injured workers, damaged equipment

MoDOT workers barely avoided a serious crash with a semi-truck while fixing a pothole on Route 54 in Jefferson City, according to the Central MoDOT District Facebook page.

The workers suffered “only minor injuries” after another MoDOT driver used his car horn to warn them of the oncoming vehicle.

“Those workers may have been seriously hurt or killed,” the post said.

According to MoDOT Senior Communications Specialist Gene McCoy, a total of 16 people were killed in work zone crashes in 2017.

Since 2000, “19 MoDOT employees have been killed in the line of duty, 13 of them taking place in work zones,” McCoy said.
