Seasonal conditions return to Mid-Missouri, with on and off storms

TUESDAY: It’ll be a cloudy and comfortable afternoon across Mid-Missouri, as decaying storms to our west keep the heat at bay today. Temperatures into the afternoon will be cooler west of Hwy 63, with locations east of 63 likely topping out near 90 degrees. Most of the day remains on the dry side, but as we head into the evening there’s a chance for isolated storms. Any storms we see will bring beneficial rain and remain below severe criteria.

TONIGHT: Overnight, skies will remain partly cloudy with temperatures dropping back close to 70. A cluster of storms is expected to develop into the evening across Kansas/Nebraska once again and track to the southeast. This will provide our best chance for seeing some storms as we head into your Wednesday morning commute. Areas along and west of Hwy 63 will have the best chance for storms Wednesday, with the activity shifting east into Thursday as a ridge builds in from the west. Any storms will bring beneficial rain, with most locations seeing upwards of .50″. Isolated spots could pick up significantly more than half an inch, in areas where the heavier storms and training occur.

EXTENDED: A series of upper level disturbances will track through the area from the northwest, generating a chance of storms continuing through Friday. Wednesday will be the most comfortable day this week as high temperatures stay into the upper 80s and heat indices only reach close to 90. Storms are possible by late afternoon and again overnight into early Thursday. The storm chance continues Thursday as a warm front moves through. This will bring temperature and humidity back up with highs close to 90 and heat indices reaching the mid-upper 90s Thursday under partly sunny skies. Another weak cold front will move in from the north Friday with high temperatures near 90 and a slight storm chance. As high pressure builds to our north, winds will shift to the north and humidity will drop, giving us a nice weekend. As of now, the upcoming weekend looks mostly sunny with highs in the upper 80s to low 90 and nights in the upper 60s.
