Search and rescue teams continue search efforts for Callaway County man

UPDATE, 10:30 p.m: The Callaway County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri Department of Conservation will continue patrolling the general area for 74-year-old Jerry Kinman.

UPDATE, 4:00 p.m: Officials with the Callaway County Sheriffs Department said they still cannot locate Jerry Kinman.

Sheriff Clay Chism tells ABC 17 News they are exploring all possibilities in the search for Kinman.

“We do know based on telephone records we have received — we do know factually that he made calls that are in question. We also know that when he made those calls, the phone was pinged near Little Dixie Lake. Since those calls, though, we have not been able to ping the phone any further. Which means it’s either dead, inoperable or turned off,” Chism said.

Neighbors said Jerry Kinman and his wife are wonderful people and could not ask for better neighbors.

ORIGINAL: The Callaway County Sheriff’s Department, the North Callaway Fire Protection District, the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri State Highway Patrol continued their search efforts Sunday morning for a 74-year-old man who went missing Friday morning.

Curtis Hall, a lieutenant with the Sheriff’s Office, said he was using a drone while crews searched for Jerry Kinman, of Millersburg, with a Boone County K-9 unit in a boat and on the banks of Little Dixie Lake.

Hall said the Highway Patrol’s water patrol was using a separate boat that was equipped with special sonar to help with the search.

Kinman was last heard from early Saturday morning, when he called and told his wife that he had fallen by the lake but didn’t know exactly where, according to authorities.

First responders started their initial search effort around 4:45 a.m. Saturday and some crews stayed overnight, authorities said.

ABC 17 News crews said additional search units arrived at Little Dixie Lake around 7 a.m.
