Suspect charged after police surround apartment

Deangelo Joe, Jr., 23, was charged in federal court Thursday after police got reports of a shooting in The Links parking lot off Clark Lane in east Columbia.

Officers told Joe to put his hands up before he ran into a building around 11:42 p.m. Wednesday. They surrounded the complex and gave commands for about 30 minutes before he surrendered.

Investigators say they later found a fired shell casings inside his pants pocket, along with a stolen handgun and rifle in the apartment. Both were reported missing after a July 8 burglary.

Joe already has two prior felony burglary convictions. He is now facing charges for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition.
