Fire at abandoned Jefferson City house ruled suspicious

The Jefferson City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire Thursday morning in the 100 Block of Hess Way.

“First arriving companies reported a large amount of fire from the rear of the structure,” said assistant chief Tim Grace. “It was determined that this was a vacant home that was boarded up from previous fire damage.”

Grace said the fire is considered suspicious and is being investigated by the fire department and Jefferson City police.

A total of 15 firefighters, two EMS paramedics and at least one JCPD officer responded to the scene.

One firefighter was treated for a “heat-related issue,” according to Grace.
