McCaskill leads Hawley in U.S. Senate campaign cash

The Federal Election Commission’s June quarterly reports are not due until July 15, but ABC 17 News is doing a campaign finance check for Missouri’s U.S. Senate race.

Incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill has a strong financial lead over likely Republican challenger Josh Hawley.

As of close of books on March 31, McCaskill’s cash on hand was $11,546,471. Hawley’s was $2,128,080.

Earlier this month, the Missouri Republican Party voted to allow the party to start spending money to support Hawley even before the August primary election. Eleven candidates are vying for the GOP nomination to unseat McCaskill.

The three states from which the most contributions were made to McCaskill are:

Missouri – $8,714,485.94

New York – $2,749,762.96

California – $2,421,176.65

For Hawley, the biggest contributions come from:

Missouri – $1,547,686.20

Florida – $247,850

Texas – $140,495

Republican Austin Peterson is in a very distant third place with cash on hand of $70,822.

Other than Hawley and McCaskill, all other declared candidates filling with the F.E.C. have a cash on hand total of less than $284,000.
