Heat wave continues, weekend storm chances
TONIGHT: Tonight will cool just a tad more than previous nights as overnight lows drop towards 70, with a few areas east of HWY 63 bottoming out in the upper 60s. We will see clear skies with a light wind out of the east up to 8 mph.
THURSDAY: Sunshine will be abundant and so will the heat and humidity as temperatures climb into the mid 90s. The humidity will make it feel like 100 to 105 with highest heat indices west of HWY 63. Winds will stay light, coming in from the southeast up to 8 mph.
EXTENDED: The heat wave continues through the weekend, with highs in the mid to upper 90s and heat indices 100-105 through Sunday. Our next chance of storms arrives Saturday afternoon with widely scattered storms possible. We’ll also have a chance of storms Sunday afternoon. Severe storms are not expected. As a cold front moves south Monday, we’ll pick up a better chance of storms and temperatures will cool down a bit, to near 90 Monday and upper 80s Tuesday. The active pattern is likely to stick around through most of next week, as the upper level ridge of high pressure retreats to the west, allowing waves of low pressure to move through. This will give us occasional storm chances and keep our high temperatures in the 80s most of next week. Check back with ABC 17 News for the latest forecast and updates throughout the week.
