Storms possible this afternoon, Cooler temps arrive Saturday
THIS AFTERNOON: We’re still tracking hot temperatures outside this afternoon, even without the heat advisories in effect. However, we’re beginning to see the influence of a cool front off to our north which is bringing slightly lower dew points, — regardless, make sure to drink plenty of water before you head out today, temps top out in the mid 90s with heat index values in the low 100s. Along that front, especially north of I-70 were watching for thunderstorms to begin firing off especially after 3pm– we’re not tracking any severe potential, but isolated heavy downpours and frequent lightning are likely.
TONIGHT: Lingering showers and storms are expected through the night along and south of I-70, as a cold front continues to track through the region. Overnight lows will bottom out in the low to mid 70s under partly cloudy skies. A noticeable shift in the wind out of the north will set the stage for cooler and drier air to filter into Mid-Missouri, which will lead to a beautiful weekend.
EXTENDED: The cold front heads south Friday morning, but little to no rain is expected for our area. It will be cooler Friday, reaching the upper 80s under partly cloudy skies. Northerly winds behind the front will usher in cooler, drier air which will be here for the weekend, giving us one of the nicest weekends so far this summer. We’ll have abundant sunshine with highs in the mid 80s Saturday and upper 80s Sunday and lower humidity. Nights will be comfortable, dropping to near 60 Saturday night. We’ll start heating up again Monday into the middle of next week as we jump back into the 90s and the humidity climbs. Watch ABC 17 News for the latest forecast and check back here for updates.
